The immensely entertaining Marvel’s the Avengers has not only sent scores of fans home with the biggest smiles on their faces for a very, very long time, it also seems to have revitalised our yearning for superhero movies. We don’t have to look far to satisfy this craving though, what with Sony’s the Amazing Spider-Man and Warner Bros’ the Dark Knight Rises just around the corner. The unfortunate move to postpone the release date of G.I. Joe: Retaliation by a little under 9 months is a bit disappointing, but at least now Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel will have some company when it hits theatres in 2013.  (more…)

The Avengers… what more can be said about it? The greatest movie in modern times pretty much sums it up. It has single handedly smashed almost every movie record in history. At over $1 billion worldwide, the film is already Disney’s highest-grossing release of all time. But where does that leave other “summer” movies? Eating its dust, that’s where. Since I saw the Avengers, I’ve gone on to see Battleship, Project X and Dark Shadows. And suffice to say, none has managed to impress me, I just kept thinking, ‘why am I not watching the Avengers again?’, because I have to write reviews that’s why! I’m sure if I had seen Battleship before the Avengers I would have enjoyed it and not dozed off half the time, but alas…  (more…)

With Marvel’s The Avengers receiving all the praise and attention, its easy to forget that there are a number of potential summer blockbusters involving other much loved heroes and hero team-ups, coming out at around the same time. We have movies like The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises and the movie with the least publicity so far… G.I. Joe: Retaliation(more…)

When you take a look at Man of Steel director Zack Snyder‘s filmography, then this news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. He’s been responsible for movies like 300, Sucker Punch, Watchmen and Dawn of the Dead, so I guess it was only a matter of time before it was revealed that his latest project, Man of Steel, will be a bit darker and edgier than previous Superman instalments, and his ability to deliver something “edgy” was probably part of the reason why Warner Bros. and producer Christopher Nolan hired him in the first place.

Happy Easter,

Its sunday, Easter Sunday at that, and so there’s really not much going on, movie news wise, this is the first slow news day I’m experiencing and I’m not sure how to handle it. I have no idea what I’m going to talk about today, so I’m just going to ramble a bit. How about we go through all that has happened this past week and appreciate what April has brought? Cool? Cool, cool, cool! Ok then, let’s go through all the news items from April 1 till date and reminisce.  (more…)

When it was announced that James Cameron was planning on re-releasing his classic movie Titanic in 3D I simply ignored the news, the same way I ignored the recently re-released Star Wars in 3D. This is simply because, on a good day, I don’t see the point of 3D, yes it looks good (sometimes) but there is nothing exceedingly spectacular about it, and the forced extra costs are downright annoying. Hello, hello, hello,

Last summer a select group of reporters from movie sites and blogs were invited to the Avengers set in Albuquerque, New Mexico to catch up with the cast and get some exclusive footage on the upcoming movie. They got to watch a few scenes get filmed, interview almost the entire cast (Robert Downey Jr., Chris EvansChris HemsworthTom HiddlestonScarlett JohanssonMarc RuffaloJeremy RennerClark Gregg) and Kevin Feige and director Josh Whedon, as well as visit the art department and learn a tremendous amount about the production.

Morning all,

Today we’re going to try something new. Instead of my usual discussion on a topic I find interesting, I’ve decided to take a leaf out of movies.com and see what other journalists, movie bloggers and tweeps have to say**.

Hey,

I will like to take this opportunity to apologise for the lack of Morning Talk today. I had to leave the house very very early for an emergency and I am only just returning. But no fears, Morning Talk will be back tomorrow in the A.M. :)

Happy New Month, Happy Palm Sunday, Happy April Fools day,

Hello, hi, welcome, (you’ll only get this joke if you watch Community),

Nickelodeon’s 2012 Kids’ Choice Awards held last night, and Hollywood’s biggest stars got slimed and the gooiest helpings of green sludge went to Kristen Stewart and Adam Sandler, who took home the mighty Blimp awards for Favorite Actress and Favorite Actor respectively. There were also predictable wins for the likes of Justin Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez. The biggest shock however has to be the total lack of slime for anything Harry Potter.
